Supervised Visitation Guidelines

The purpose of supervised visitation is to provide a protected setting for parent-child contact when ordered by the court or needed for any reason. We take the comfort of both the parent and the child very seriously; but also manage any risk to the parent and/or child by being responsible for hearing/seeing all interactions. The safety and well-being of the children is of primary importance, while also allowing for the parent who is being supervised the opportunity to provide appropriate their own parenting skills to their child(ren). A safe, positive, and comfortable environment is ensured for all parties. Contact between parents is professionally managed so there is safety and no negative interaction, which prevents the child(ren) from being placed in an awkward situation. During your intake/orientation, more information will be provided and any questions will be answered.  Ongoing contact with management is also welcomed.

Intake & Orientation

We require all participants to attend an orientation meeting either in person or on the phone, which will acquaint us with your family and supervision needs. At this meeting, we also discuss our policies and procedures so there is a clear picture of all expectations during the visits.  Questions and discussion are specifically welcomed.

Supervised Exchange

Supervised exchanges provide a peaceful exchange of parenting time from one parent to the other.  It is not supervised visitation, but rather assistance. The parent who will be receiving the child(ren) arrives prior to the scheduled exchange time and the parent who is exchanging the child(ren) arrives at the time of the exchange. The child(ren) are received by the exchange monitor and brought to the waiting parent. We will do everything possible to assist so the atmosphere is positive for the child(ren). Family Connections reserves the right to set up a different arrangement if all parties agree and the agreement does not conflict with any current court order. Off-Site supervised exchanges will include an additional charge for travel time of the exchange supervisor from the Family Connections office to the location of the exchange.

Off-Site Supervised Visitation

Off-site supervised visitation refers to a supervised visit that occurs outside of the premises of Family Connections.  We require a minimum of three on-site supervised visits prior to going off-site. After the third on-site visit, Family Connections shall determine which families will qualify to go off-site as long it does not conflict with any current court orders and both parties agree.  Off-site visits are only arranged if the agency staff are available.  Visit supervisor entrance fee to any events or activity including eating during the visit must be paid by the visiting parent. Due to the nature of this type of visitation, the visitation supervisor will not be able to record as much detail about conversations, interactions, and observations of the visiting parties as they would in an individual, on-site visit. However, a written record will be completed by the visit supervisor that includes date, time, duration and location of the visit, as well as some of the activities and interactions that the parties engaged during the visit. Detailed reports are available for off-site visits, however the content of such visits may be much more limited in nature. Off-Site supervised visits will include an additional charge for travel time of the visit supervisor from the Family Connections office to the location of the visit and well as mileage from Family Connections at a rate of $0.55 per mile. Times for drop-off and pick-up will be arranged before the visit. We will not transport children in personal vehicles, except in an extreme emergency.  If transportation is necessary for off-site visitation, the custodial parent must must use his or her own vehicle to transport the children to and from the agreed upon supervised visit location.
